In 1941, Franciszek Gajowniczek, a Jewish man, was about to be killed by the Nazis at Auschwitz. In fear, he said, "I have a wife, a family." St. Maximilian Kolbe said, " I am a priest, I will take his place." He died on August 14, 1941 and we celebrate his feast day on that same day. Gajowniczek would live till he was 94, dedicated his life to share this story and attended the canonization of St. Maximilian Kolbe. St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us.

Save the date for the St. Joseph’s West Liberty annual family festival is on Sunday, September 3, right outside the church, 107 W. 6th St. The Quad City Ballet Folkroico will perform at 2 pm, LULAC Council 310, West Liberty Iowa scholarship winners will be announced at 3 pm. Plus of course, a lot of great food, we hope to see you their!
